How To Reset Resharper Evaluation Period

If you are a .NET developer, you probably know how useful ReSharper is. ReSharper is a Visual Studio extension that helps you write better code, find and fix errors, refactor your code, run tests, and much more. ReSharper is not free, but it offers a 30-day free evaluation period for new users.

But what if you want to extend your trial period or try a newer version of ReSharper? How can you reset Resharper evaluation period and enjoy its full functionality again? In this article, we will show you some methods to do that.

Method 1: Use pre-release builds

One way to reset Resharper evaluation period is to use pre-release builds. These are nightly builds that JetBrains publishes before a major ReSharper release. They serve for beta-testing purposes and may contain bugs and unfinished features. However, they also have a new 30-day evaluation period for each build, so you can keep using them until the official release.

To use pre-release builds, you need to do the following:

  • Uninstall your current version of ReSharper.

  • Install the new version of ReSharper.

  • Start Visual Studio and enter your license information.

Note that this method only works for pre-release builds, not for post-release builds. Post-release builds contain only bug-fixes and do not prolong the evaluation period. You can check the type of build on the download page.

Method 2: Delete user settings file

Another way to reset Resharper evaluation period is to delete the user settings file. This file stores your personal preferences and options for ReSharper. It also contains information about your license and evaluation period. By deleting this file, you can trick ReSharper into thinking that you are a new user and start a new trial period.

To delete the user settings file, you need to do the following:

  • Close Visual Studio if it is running.

  • Navigate to C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\JetBrains\ReSharper\\vs\.

  • Delete the UserSettings.xml file.

  • Start Visual Studio and enter your license information.
